Kinco. – Lively Hub In the Center of Takamatsu

Kinco – new purpose, same meaning

Kinco. hostel+cafe is a creatively designed hostel in the southeast of Takamatsu. If you arrive at the Takamatsu station you can take a train from the nearby Takamatsu-chikko station to the Hanazono station and from there it takes only about five minutes by foot.

Kinco. The building is in the shape of a cube with two big floors and no real walls or partitioning on the first floor so you can immediately oversee everything. Once a warehouse that was selling security boxes, in Japanese so called “Kinco”, the name has been adopted by the new manager since it bears the meaning of “precious things are being put into the Kinco” for Japanese natives, meaning all the guests and visitors.

From old to new

IMGP3591The whole building has been freshly renovated to accommodate a maximum of 20 guests per night in their comfy bunk style beds on the second floor.

Kinco_bunkAll the beds are equipped with coat hangers, a reading light, a small table and a curtain in front of your bed for your privacy.

There are two big, bright bathrooms available, one for women and one for men, both with western style toilets and brand new showers waiting for you after a long day of exploring Takamatsu and its surroundings. There is also a fully furnished small kitchen on the second floor for you to prepare your Japanese cuisine or other previously bought food.

IMGP3482On the ground floor there’s the café and bar that offers tasty food & drinks and there are tables at which you can relax, read some of the offered books or use the free WiFi. Since Kinco. is not only a guesthouse but also a free for all café you can often chitchat with local Japanese people who come here for coffee or lunch if you like.

“I wanted to create a place where people can get together”

IMGP4372The manager of Kinco. is Kobayashi-San. She wants Kinco. to be a central meeting point in Takamatsu at which journeys to explore Takamatsu can be started and foreigners and natives can meet and become friends. If you had to put the feeling you get when entering Kinco. into words it would be best described as welcoming.
Some of the staff at Kinco. speaks English so there is always someone there that can help you out with your questions about Japan and Takamatsu!

We hope you have a good time and an awesome experience while visiting Takamatsu and the Kinco. hostel+cafe!
